Bangkok-born and London-raised, Chomwan Weeraworawit trained in law with a PhD. from King's College London in Intellectual Property and Fashion.
Chomwan’s diverse career which has always placed culture, creativity and content at the forefront started in 2002 when her made-to-order fashion line, Chomwan, led to a commission to design the uniforms for Kittichai restaurant in NYC. Other uniforms followed in London, Paris and Bangkok. She then co-founded and was creative director of a fashion label called Nsha. After Nsha, her next venture was to put together the intellectual property strategy at Thailand's largest TV and media network. This led to an introduction to the world of film where at the network she found herself producing films and striking deals with major international networks. She also found herself to be an ally to some of Thailand's leading figures in independent cinema - a continuing dialogue with filmmakers Lee Chatametikool, filmmaker/artist Apichatpong Weerasethakul and actor Ananda Everingham was born. This led to a further collaboration with Weerasethakul, when he co-curated the first edition of Film on the Rocks Yao Noi with Tilda Swinton, a film festival which Chomwan co-founded in 2012. Since then, she has collaborated with artists from Rirkrit Tiravanija on fundraising for The Land Foundation to Korakrit Arunanondchai on the inaugural edition of GHOST. Informed by her Ph.D. research she co-founded the brand Philip Huang with her husband and collaborates with the artisans in the Northeast Thailand to explore how artisanal knowledge can be protected and evolved for the future through design, film, and art. From 2018-2019 she was the Vice President of Brand Creative at The Standard hotels where she oversaw the brand’s creative direction, editorial platform and artist collaborations.
Chomwan was on the curatorial team of the third edition of the Bangkok Art Biennale in 2022. In her curatorial practice, Weeraworawit is interested in alternative narratives and histories to imagine a different future from what we have today. In 2023, she curated Pinaree Sanpitak’s Valentino commission, Breast Stupas Valentino, presented in Singapore at Art SG. Weeraworawit sits on the board of Denniston Hill in New York which was founded by Julie Mehrehtu, Paul Pfeiffer and Lawrence Chua. Over the years she has contributed to publications such as Purple, L’Uomo Vogue, Bangkok Post, and Tatler as well as being the Editor-at-Large of 2Magazine.
Combining over 16 years of experience in the creative and cultural realm together with her expertise in intellectual property, Chomwan believes in bringing different disciplines together to create alternative strategies and solutions. Her portfolio includes clients and projects in diverse industries from art to architecture, from fashion to food and hospitality.
Chomwan currently lives between Bangkok and NYC with her family.
